This textbook describes the basic molecular and cellular components of the immune system, the pathogenesis and prevention of infectious diseases, and common immune system dysfunctions. Topics of the 27 chapters include antibodies, the major histocompatibility complex, antigen processing, the T-cell receptor, vaccines, AIDS, and transplantation immunology. Color illustrations depict the immunologic processes in conjunction with their role in infectious or other diseases. In addition to an emphasis on infectious diseases, the book focuses strongly on those areas where the immune system does not act when it should as well as areas where the over activity or dysregulation of the immune system is a cause of pathology.
This test for Part One covers chapter 1 through 13 of the textbook.
